Still alive.

Rijksmuseum Research Library, Amsterdam {via Flavorwire}

Hello my friends. I'm still alive, I promise! Just been super busy working, traveling and watching lots of dear friends get married. But I miss my design friends! I'll be back to regular posting shortly. For today, let's take a deep breath and enjoy the utter perfection of this library. Can I live there?

Mini hiatus

design zealot friends, I hope you will pardon my minor bout of radio silence of late. We've been working over here on a new logo/look and feel of the blog and simultaneously, both work life and personal life have been eating me up lately. Hoping to get some fun new stuff up soon - bear with me!

Shelley

Friday design finds 1.13.12

Well, how was your week my friends? I must admit, for me it was the kind of week that left me breathless, feeling scattered and crazed. But we got through it, didn't we? And now we have a delicious weekend ahead of us. I don't know about you but I'm planning to lay low and relax, nowhere I have to be, nothing I have to do. Divine.

Here are some pretty things to enjoy this weekend.

Eames rockers

Have you ever had a chance to see an Eames rocker in the flesh? A couple weeks I came across one while visiting Design Within Reach in Georgetown, in a gorgeous robin's egg blue. As many times as I've seen them in pictures, I wasn't prepared for how drawn I'd be to those aesthetically pleasing lines, those simple curves. I fell so hard, so fast, it was painful to leave the shop. It felt like I was leaving MY chair behind!

I know now that I will have one for my own one day. But in the meantime, let's take a look at some of these beauties in a few different spaces.

I know they're not for everyone but as an accent piece, they really offer a beautiful shape and pop of color. So! Are you in love too?

Do tell.

Love, light, & magic

{via Pinterest}

Here's to a 2012 full of love, light and if we're lucky, a little magic. Of all the nights of the year, tonight comes the closest to bridging the chasm between every possibility and real life. If anything, we can marvel at just that.

Ah, but there is so much more than that.

Bathroom inspiration

Hello my dears! I hope you all had wonderful holiday vacations and are resting up for the new year ahead! I'm hanging at home this week, enjoying time with family, catching up with friends, and reading through some of the new design books I was lucky to receive for Christmas. More on them soon.

I spent some time today daydreaming about how I'd like to re-do our bathrooms if I had the chance (read: the money). Did you know the average American spends $11,000 on their renovated bathroom? Ouch!

On one hand, I'm drawn to the bold. Thick stripes, bright, colorful wallpaper, dark paint.

On the other hand, there's something to be said for these clean, predominantly white, serene spaces.

I think I prefer the lighter look in my bathroom but the bold look packs quite the punch for a guest bath/powder room. Then there's the use of unusual elements in bathrooms which I just love. Like plants, fireplaces, chandeliers, furniture and other oddities.

One common theme? Most of my favorite bathroom inspirations feature clawfoot tubs, tiled floors, and pedestal or console table sinks. Serene or bold, I suspect my future bathroom will have some or all of these elements.

What appeals to you in a bathroom? Do tell.
